Fire bans

In most parks, the fire ban season extends from 1 November to 30 April, depending on seasonal conditions. No wood fires are permitted in parks during this time. Some parks have year-round bans on wood fires.

All open fires, liquid fuel and gas stoves are banned in all parks on days of extreme fire danger as declared by the Country Fire Service (CFS) and broadcast on the radio. Parks may be closed to visitors on Total Fire Ban days. Contact the CFS hotline on 1300 362 361 (only available within Australia).

Fire restrictions

For 2008/2009 National Parks and Wildlife Reserves and Wilderness Protection Areas fire restrictions see Fire Restrictions (50Kb PDF). The purpose of these fire restrictions is to ensure the safety of visitors using the reserves, and in the interests of protecting the reserves and neighbouring properties. For parks closures dial the Country Fire Service (CFS) Hotline on 1300 362 361 or contact our regional offices or see parks closures.
